In Place (2025)

In Place is an illustrative mapping project that uncovers displaced headstones scattered across London’s parks and former churchyards. Following the 1850s Burial Acts, many graves were relocated to new cemeteries on the city’s outskirts, leaving countless headstones
behind—gathered along churchyard walls or dispersed across the grounds. Detached from the graves they once marked, these stones now exist as fragmented datasets and quiet markers of memory.
Through a collection of postal stamps for each site
and an interactive map, the project celebrates their presence and repositions them within London’s contemporary landscape.
